PLUMBING
FMC Tower's plumbing system ties into the main city water grid for its source. The 12 inch PWD main in the street feeds the building at the lower 30th street basement where it's pumped up to the office floors. Some of the cold water goes straight to the cold use of the office floors while a portion of it is heated by water heater then recirculated as hot use. There are two heating loops for every three floors on the office levels of FMC, one on each side. A hot water reheater is positioned near the ends of each loop to convey already heated water continually upward.
The main supply pipe runs all the way up the tower supplying cold water to the upper residences as well. On the 27th mechanical floor, another pump gives the water another push in order to supply the residence levels.
On each residence floor, there are also two loops, each with a re-heat at the beginning. The cold and hot water then circulate through the floor for all the apartments after which, it is put through a hot water recirculator and sent up to the next level.
At the roof mechanical level, storage tanks for un-used cold and hot water manage any excess capacity that is not used before reaching the top. These tanks can then send water back downward where it's needed.
The feed pipes also convey water to the rooftop HVAC system and the system on 27 as well.
